Drywall Installation Projects We Handle

  • Basement finishing — the single most common installation project in Toledo, and the one most often done wrong. See the section below on what a Northwest Ohio basement actually needs.
  • Additions & remodels — new board blended seamlessly into existing walls and ceilings, so you can't see where the old house ends and the new one begins.
  • New construction — full-house hanging and finishing for builders and owner-builders, on schedule and to spec.
  • Garages & workshops — including fire-rated (Type X) board where code requires it between an attached garage and living space.
  • Commercial build-outs — offices, retail, and light commercial spaces, often over metal stud framing.
  • Ceilings — flat, sag-free ceilings using proper ceiling board and fastening schedules, not wall board turned sideways.
  • Plaster overlays — hanging thin board directly over sound old plaster in Toledo's pre-war homes, which is faster and far less destructive than tearing it out.

What a Toledo Basement Actually Needs

Nearly every house in Lucas and Wood counties has a full basement, and nearly every one of them is damp at least part of the year. The clay soil holds water against the foundation, the water table sits high, and spring thaw plus heavy rain is exactly when a finished basement finds out how it was built.

So we install for that reality: framing held off the concrete rather than tight against it, a gap at the bottom of the board so a minor floor event doesn't wick eighteen inches up a finished wall, and mold-resistant board where moisture is a genuine risk. We also want to see your sump setup before we start. If a basement has flooded before, that's not a reason to skip finishing it — it's a reason to detail it so the next event costs you a mop instead of a demo crew.

The Right Board for the Right Room

Drywall isn't one product. We select board for how each room actually gets used: standard 1/2" for most walls, 5/8" Type X for fire-rated assemblies, moisture- and mold-resistant board for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements, and sag-resistant ceiling board overhead. In older homes in the Old West End, Birmingham, or Westmoreland, we often hang 3/8" board over existing plaster to save demolition while delivering a flat, modern wall.

What a Quality Installation Looks Like

The difference between a good drywall job and a bad one shows up at 5 PM, when low evening light rakes across the wall. Our process is built to pass that test:

  • Inspection first. We check framing for bowed or proud studs and fix problems before board goes up — drywall can't hide crooked framing.
  • Smart layout. Sheets run perpendicular to framing with staggered seams and as few butt joints as possible; fewer joints mean flatter walls.
  • Proper fastening. Screws set just below the surface without breaking paper — overdriven screws are tomorrow's screw pops.
  • Three-coat finishing. Tape coat, fill coat, and finish coat, each sanded and feathered, to a standard Level 4 finish — or a Level 5 skim coat where you want dead-flat walls under gloss paint or strong side light.

Winter Installation in Northwest Ohio

Joint compound doesn't dry — it releases water into the air, and that air has to be warm enough and dry enough to take it. In an unheated Toledo addition in January, mud can sit tacky for days, and rushing a coat onto a damp one is how you get cracked, shrunken seams by spring. We're happy to work through the winter, and most of our January and February jobs go perfectly, but the space needs heat and air movement first. If your project is unheated, we'll tell you what it needs before we quote it rather than discovering it halfway through.

How Much Does Drywall Installation Cost in Toledo?

For most Toledo-area projects, installed and finished drywall runs roughly $2.00–$3.50 per square foot of board, depending on ceiling height, room complexity, finish level, and access. A typical 12×12 bedroom usually lands in the $1,500–$2,500 range including finishing; full basements vary widely with layout and how many soffits the ductwork demands. Every job gets a firm written quote after a free on-site visit — no surprises after the fact.

Installation, Then a Flawless Finish

Hanging is only half the job. If you already have board up — from a builder, a previous contractor, or your own weekend work — our finishing and texturing service can take it from rough to paint-ready. And if your project is starting from bare studs (or no studs at all), our framing crew builds the straight, square skeleton a great wall needs.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does drywall installation take?

A single room typically takes 3–5 working days from hanging to sand-ready walls, because joint compound needs drying time between coats. A full basement usually runs 1–2 weeks, and whole-house projects 2–4 weeks depending on size. Cold winter conditions can stretch drying time, and we'll build that into the schedule we give you.

Do you supply the drywall or do I buy it?

We supply it. Our estimate includes materials, delivery, hanging, finishing, and cleanup — you don't need to wrestle 12-foot sheets down your basement stairs. If you've already purchased board, we're happy to install what you have.

Can you finish my basement so it survives a wet spring?

That's how we build them. We hold framing off the concrete, leave a gap at the base of the board so minor water doesn't wick up the wall, and use mold-resistant board where the risk is real. We'll also look at your sump and drainage during the estimate — finishing a basement that floods without addressing the water first is money down the drain.

Can you install drywall over my old plaster walls?

Often, yes. In many older Toledo homes we hang 3/8-inch drywall directly over sound plaster, which is faster and far less messy than demolition. If the plaster is failing or the walls need new wiring or insulation, we'll talk through a tear-out honestly.

What finish level do I need?

Level 4 is the standard paint-ready finish and right for most rooms. We recommend Level 5 (a full skim coat) for walls that get strong raking light — big windows, hallways with end windows — or anywhere you plan gloss or dark paint, which highlight every imperfection.

Can you install drywall in an unheated space in the winter?

Not well, and we won't pretend otherwise. Joint compound needs warmth and air movement to dry properly; in an unheated Toledo garage or addition in January it can stay tacky for days and shrink or crack later. Get temporary heat in the space and winter installation goes fine — we'll tell you exactly what's needed at the estimate.
